Through innovative initiatives and record-breaking achievements, FWT is empowering Filipino travelers to explore the world and make an impact.
When Kach Umandap stood on the threshold of history in January 2025, her heart was racing. Not only had she become the youngest Filipino to visit all 193 UN countries using solely a Philippine passport, but she had also etched her name in the travel books as a symbol of perseverance and pride. For Umandap, her journey was more than about ticking off countries; it was about inspiring others, especially Filipinos, to think beyond borders and embrace the global community.
Filipino World Travelers (FWT) is a thriving global network that champions world exploration, cultural pride, and community building among Filipino travelers. Established by Dondon Bales, FWT is the first of its kind, a merit-based organization that recognizes achievement rather than charging membership fees. It has become a leading force in promoting Filipino pride on the international stage, welcoming world travelers from all walks of life to share their journeys.
From Humble Beginnings to Groundbreaking Achievements
2025 has been a transformative year for FWT, marked by unprecedented achievements that have not only shaped the organization’s future but have also highlighted the exceptional milestones of its members.
The turning point came when Dondon Bales had the honor of presenting the “Filipina Travel Legends” to the President of the Philippines in a historic courtesy call. The legendary trio, Odette Ricasa, the first Filipino to visit all countries; Luisa Yu, the oldest Filipino to complete this feat; and Kach Umandap, the youngest Filipino to visit all 193 UN countries and the first to do so solely using a Philippine passport, were all recognized for their extraordinary contributions to world travel. It was a moment of pride and reflection, a celebration of Filipino heritage and the power of exploration.
But the story doesn’t end there. Just a few months later, in September 2025, Glen Dalisay became the first Filipino man to visit all 193 UN countries, breaking yet another boundary for Filipino explorers. Meanwhile, at just 12 years old, Wyatt Maktrav made history in July 2025 by becoming the youngest person in the world to visit all UN countries in Europe, using a Philippine passport. These milestones are a testament to the resilience, determination, and ambition of Filipino travelers.
Additionally, the 2025 NomadMania Travel Awards held in November — widely regarded as the ‘Oscars for world travelers’ — marked another milestone for FWT, with several members receiving well-deserved recognition for their remarkable achievements. Luisa Yu won the prestigious Most Intrepid Traveler award. Kach Umandap was recognized as a Finalist for the Most Purposeful Traveler category, while Odette Aquitania Ricasa earned a Finalist distinction for Best Travel Book for her inspiring work “It’s All in the State of Mind”. Meanwhile, Wyatt Maktrav and his mother, Kaila de los Reyes, were also honored as Finalists in the Biggest Low Passport Index Traveler category — continuing the tradition of FWT members earning recognition as Finalists in previous years, including Umandap in 2022, Pia Montemayor in 2023, and Gean Tayone in 2024.
A Community of Achievers: The FWT Difference
What truly sets FWT apart from other travel communities is its unique approach to membership and its commitment to making a difference. The organization believes in earning a place based on merit, not fees. Membership is an honor bestowed upon those who demonstrate a commitment to world travel, cultural exchange, and community engagement. This means that FWT is made up of highly accomplished individuals who are not only passionate about exploring the world but are also committed to supporting each other along the way.
FWT is a global community, one that transcends geographic boundaries. Unlike other travel organizations that are centered around a particular country or region, FWT is a truly international network of travelers. With over 30 meet-ups held across 20 cities worldwide in the past year alone, FWT brings together Filipino travelers from every corner of the globe, creating a space where members can connect, learn, and grow.
The organization’s strong commitment to global travel has earned the respect of renowned international groups, including NomadMania — an authority on verifying the world’s most well-traveled individuals — and Travel Massive, widely regarded as the ‘LinkedIn of the travel world.’ Through FWT, members can earn Certificates of Achievement that validate and celebrate their travel milestones. This emphasis on accurate travel verification ensures that every accomplishment within the community is both recognized and honored
Travel with Purpose: Impact Beyond Exploration
At the heart of FWT’s mission is the belief that travel is not just about seeing new places, but about making a positive impact on the world. FWT’s initiatives reflect this philosophy, blending creativity with purpose in everything they do. From hosting the FWT Travel Photo Contest to launching the original anthem “We Are Filipino World Travelers,” the organization uses its platform to celebrate the beauty of global exploration while raising awareness for social causes.
In 2024, FWT elevated its advocacy efforts through a meaningful fundraising initiative led by one of its members, Jhett van Ruyven, who undertook a Mt. Kilimanjaro summit to support underprivileged Filipino children. The journey was not just about the physical challenge; it was about giving back to those who need it most, further cementing FWT’s commitment to using travel as a tool for good.
Looking ahead, FWT’s upcoming projects promise to continue this legacy of purpose-driven travel. The FWT Travel Museum, slated for launch in Dumaguete City, Philippines, in late 2026, will serve as a tribute to Filipino global explorers and their contributions to cultural exchange. The museum will preserve the stories of these travelers, inspiring future generations to explore the world while honoring their heritage.
A Bold Vision for 2026: A Legacy of Filipino Exploration
FWT’s journey is far from over. As the organization approaches its 3rd anniversary in 2026, it remains committed to strengthening and expanding its existing groundbreaking initiatives that uplift and inspire its growing global community. These include the World Travel Milestones Verification Program, the Annual Travel Survey, worldwide virtual and in-person meet-ups, and continued advocacy for sustainable travel practices.
One of the most highly anticipated projects for 2026 is the release of a new travel book co-authored by FWT members. This book will serve as a celebration of Filipino exploration, featuring the stories of travelers from all over the world. It will be launched alongside the 5th anniversary edition of “gala: Adventures of the Most Well-Traveled Filipinos,” a beloved collection that chronicles the journeys of some of the most accomplished Filipino travelers.
FWT’s presence at major international travel events, including the 3rd Extraordinary Travel Festival in Bangkok, will also ensure that the organization continues to be a driving force in the world of exploration. With members like Kach Umandap speaking at these global gatherings, FWT will remain at the forefront of the conversation about travel, cultural exchange, and Filipino pride.
