Beats & BBQ Fest Lights Up Manistee with Music, Community, and Flavor

by Biz Weekly Contributor

Manistee, Michigan — On August 8 and 9, 2025, the Little River Casino Resort became the heart of a vibrant celebration as the Beats & BBQ Fest brought together live music, savory barbecue, and a strong sense of community. The free, family-friendly event welcomed residents and visitors alike, offering two days of entertainment that reflected Manistee’s unique character and commitment to inclusive local gatherings.

The festival’s musical lineup featured an exciting mix of tribute bands that paid homage to some of rock’s most beloved icons. Friday’s performances opened with Petty Thieves, whose renditions of Tom Petty classics set an upbeat tone for the evening. They were followed by Classic Seger, a Bob Seger tribute band that captured the spirit of the Michigan legend with faithful, high-energy performances. On Saturday, the crowd enjoyed the synth-infused rock of Moving in Stereo, dedicated to The Cars, before the night closed with Jump, a Van Halen tribute that delivered the same electrifying stage presence and hard-hitting sound as the originals. Both evenings began at 6:30 p.m., allowing attendees to ease into the night with good food and music as the sun set over Manistee.

While the music brought people together, the food ensured they stayed for the full experience. Five well-known barbecue vendors brought distinct flavors from different regions, creating a culinary tour for festivalgoers. Aussom Aussie BBQ offered fruit-based sauces that added a tropical twist to traditional smoked meats. BigShow BBQ showcased rich Kansas City flavors with slow-cooked, sauce-laden dishes. Smokin’ Bob B Que delivered hardwood-fired creations made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, connecting the festival to Manistee’s own agricultural roots. That Guys BBQ, a family-run favorite from Bay City, added a personal touch with recipes passed down through generations. Gary’s Concessions rounded out the food offerings with comfort classics that appealed to every palate.

The setting encouraged a relaxed, communal vibe. Attendees arrived with lawn chairs and blankets, turning the festival grounds into a patchwork of small gatherings where friends and families could enjoy the evening together. Children danced to familiar songs, couples shared plates of barbecue, and strangers became neighbors over shared tables and conversation. The event provided a rare blend of high-quality entertainment and an atmosphere that felt as welcoming as a backyard get-together.

Organizers stressed that the Beats & BBQ Fest was more than just a weekend event—it was an investment in the local community. By bringing together live music, small businesses, and regional culture, the festival supported entrepreneurial growth while giving residents a chance to celebrate their town’s identity. Local vendors benefited from increased exposure, and the influx of visitors provided a boost to nearby restaurants, shops, and lodging. The fact that the event was free meant it was accessible to everyone, regardless of background, reinforcing its role as a unifying experience for the region.

The success of the Beats & BBQ Fest highlighted Manistee’s growing reputation as a destination for events that combine entertainment with economic and cultural value. In a time when many communities are seeking ways to strengthen social ties, the festival stood out as a model for how music and food can serve as catalysts for connection. As the final chords of Van Halen’s “Jump” faded into the summer night and the smoky aroma of barbecue lingered in the air, attendees left with more than just a night of fun—they left with a reminder of the joy that comes from gathering together, sharing flavors, and celebrating local talent.
