Leadership Changes in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
On August 1, 2025, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a series of significant leadership changes, which took effect on that date. These changes included the appointment of new members to the Presidency of the Seventy, the addition of 16 new General Authority Seventies, and the installation of a new Young Men general presidency. Additionally, the Church granted emeritus status to five General Authority Seventies, and released the then-current Young Men general presidency, signaling a transition in key leadership roles within the Church.
These leadership changes were first introduced during the Saturday morning session of the 195th Annual General Conference of the Church, which took place on April 5, 2025. The announcement was followed by several organizational adjustments within the Church. On the same date, August 1, 2025, the Church also launched its new Canada Area, marking a significant shift in the Church’s global structure. The establishment of the Canada Area had been previously announced in December 2024, and the subsequent renaming of several areas in North America, along with new area presidency assignments, was shared shortly after the April 2025 general conference.

In this newly organized structure, there are now 24 area presidencies that oversee the Church’s operations around the world. These presidencies, which include both General Authority Seventies and Area Seventies, operate from area offices located within their assigned regions. These leadership transitions and reorganizations reflect the Church’s ongoing efforts to adapt to the growing needs of its global membership, ensuring that leadership is effectively structured to support the needs of members across different regions.
These changes signal a continued commitment to spiritual growth, organizational efficiency, and the strengthening of the Church’s presence in various parts of the world, particularly in the newly designated Canada Area. The appointment of new leadership positions, alongside the reorganization of area presidencies, highlights the Church’s focus on improving its global structure and enhancing its ability to serve the faithful.
