Bridging Continents, Building Legacies: Amne Suedi’s Vision for Africa’s Future

by Biz Weekly Contributor

At the age of 32, Amne Suedi was working in a high-rise office in Zurich, immersed in the world of private equity and hedge funds. As a legal adviser at Capital Dynamics, managing significant assets, she was at the peak of her financial career. But her heart told her that there was more she could do. Drawn by a deep desire to make a difference, Amne made the bold decision to leave the financial corridors of Europe and dedicate herself to a transformative journey in Africa.

Today, Amne is recognized as one of Africa’s most influential legal and investment advisers, known for her commitment to advancing the continent’s economic development and empowering its entrepreneurs. Through her company, Shikana Investment and Advisory, which she founded in 2014, she has built strategic partnerships that have contributed to the sustainable growth of businesses across Africa.

From Financial Expertise to Empowering Entrepreneurs

Amne’s career in Switzerland was marked by prestige and success. As a legal adviser, she offered counsel to private equity firms and hedge fund teams, gaining invaluable expertise in managing complex financial transactions. She later moved to Pictet Group, one of Switzerland’s most respected private banks, where she continued her work advising on funds and investments.

Despite the success she achieved in Europe, Amne felt compelled to contribute to the continent she calls home. Motivated by a deep connection to East Africa, especially Tanzania, Amne founded Shikana Investment and Advisory with a mission to help shape Africa’s investment landscape with long-term, sustainable growth strategies.

“I didn’t just want to advise on deals — I wanted to play a role in reshaping how Africa is viewed globally. My focus has always been on ensuring investments drive meaningful and lasting impact,” says Amne.

Building Long-Term Partnerships

Amne believes in Africa’s potential as a center of innovation and economic growth. She champions the idea that investment in Africa should focus on building lasting partnerships, rather than short-term gains or exploitation of resources. This philosophy is reflected in her work with over 100 African entrepreneurs, where she provides guidance on business scaling, due diligence, and strategic growth.

“Africa doesn’t need saviors — it needs strategic, long-term partners,” Amne emphasizes. Her work is not just about financial transactions; it’s about creating an ecosystem that supports local businesses and provides them with the tools they need to succeed sustainably.

Amne’s efforts go beyond business consulting. She is deeply involved in shaping policies that will influence Africa’s future. As the Chairperson of the Switzerland-Tanzania Chamber of Commerce and a Board Member of the Tanzania Investment Center (TIC), Amne has the opportunity to influence both government and business strategies, helping guide the development of Africa’s economic landscape.

Supporting Local Entrepreneurship and Legal Access

Amne is committed to supporting the growth of local businesses in Africa, focusing on providing them with the legal and strategic tools necessary for success. One of her key initiatives is Know My Legal, a platform designed to equip entrepreneurs with the legal knowledge they need to navigate complex regulatory environments.

“In many African markets, entrepreneurs lack the essential tools and knowledge to scale. Know My Legal helps bridge that gap, giving them the confidence to engage with investors and regulators,” Amne explains.

Another notable project is Zambarau Gem House, a Tanzanian jewelry brand that showcases the country’s craftsmanship to the world. Zambarau is more than just a business; it represents Amne’s vision of transforming the narrative around Africa’s natural resources by adding value locally, creating a market for African-made goods that have global appeal.

A Legacy of Empowerment and Impact

Amne’s contributions go beyond business and investment. In 2023, she was appointed Honorary Consul of Switzerland in Zanzibar, a position that allows her to further promote trade and collaboration between Switzerland and Africa. For Amne, this role reflects her broader goal of fostering international understanding and cooperation, showing the world that Africa is not just a market but a place rich with opportunities for growth and collaboration.

“Creating bridges between countries and cultures is essential for building stronger global relationships,” she says. “Africa’s future lies in its partnerships with the world, and I’m proud to play a part in facilitating those connections.”

Amne’s work, recognized through numerous accolades including being named among the Top 100 Executives in Tanzania and the Top 50 Women in Management in Africa, is shaping a new narrative for Africa’s economic future. She continues to focus on creating sustainable, ethical frameworks that will ensure lasting prosperity for the continent.
