From June 5 to 11, 2025, New York’s Capital Region will come alive with an exciting lineup of cultural events that include the Capital Pride Parade and Festival, the Lake George Music Festival, and the beloved “Alive at Five” concert series. These events together showcase the vibrant and diverse spirit of the area, offering residents and visitors alike a chance to celebrate music, theater, identity, and community in a festive atmosphere.
Capital Pride Parade and Festival: A Celebration of Diversity
One of the centerpiece events of the week is the Capital Pride Parade and Festival, taking place on Sunday, June 8, in Albany. Known as the largest pride event in upstate New York, it draws over 25,000 attendees annually and is recognized as one of the most spirited and inclusive celebrations in the region.
The parade begins at 11:30 a.m., marching through State Street, Lark Street, and Madison Avenue before culminating in Washington Park. The atmosphere is electric with colorful floats, energetic marching bands, dance troupes, and local organizations proudly showcasing their support for the LGBTQ+ community.
Immediately following the parade, Washington Park transforms into a lively festival ground featuring live music performances, food vendors, merchandise booths, and a designated Family Carnival Zone. This year’s headliners include pop star DEV and Mila Jam, a prominent NYC-based transgender advocate and performer. Their participation is expected to draw large crowds and underscore the importance of visibility and acceptance.
Lake George Music Festival: Classical Music in a Scenic Setting
Running from June 8 to 19, the Lake George Music Festival marks its 15th year of bringing world-class classical music to one of the most scenic areas of the state. The festival features a variety of daily concerts, open rehearsals, and community outreach programs, offering both highbrow performances and intimate musical experiences.
Venues include historic and architecturally significant locations such as the Carriage House at Fort William Henry and the Lake George Club. Highlights of the festival include the Composer’s Institute Final Performance, where emerging composers debut new works, and the Uncorked event, blending fine wines, gourmet food, and live music in a lakeside setting.
The festival’s mission to make classical music more accessible is reflected in its inclusive programming and emphasis on community engagement. Attendees can expect to hear symphonies, chamber music, and innovative collaborations that push traditional boundaries.
Alive at Five: Free Concerts Energize Downtown Albany
Returning to its original venue at Tricentennial Park after a significant $1.25 million renovation, the “Alive at Five” concert series is set to energize downtown Albany with weekly concerts every Thursday evening through mid-July. The newly upgraded park now offers improved sound quality, better accessibility, and modernized facilities.
This year’s lineup is as diverse as it is dynamic:
- June 5: QueensrŹche with Gozer (Classic Rock)
- June 12: Neal Francis with TV Doctors (Funk and Pride Night)
- June 19: Lupe Fiasco with DJ TGIF and Rhakim Ali (Hip-Hop and Juneteenth)
- June 26: Boys Like Girls with The Story Boys (Emo Night)
- July 10: Mellow Mood with Dis-N-Dat Band (Reggae)
- July 17: Middle Aged Dad Jam Band with Wild Adriatic (Classic Rock Finale)
The concerts, which run from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., are family-friendly and completely free to attend. In case of rain, events are relocated to the Corning Preserve Boat Launch beneath Interstate 787, ensuring the show goes on regardless of weather.
Additional Cultural Highlights
Beyond the major events, the Capital Region also offers a range of other attractions throughout the week. Theaters across the area are staging performances like “Eclipsed,” “The Elephant Man,” and a new play titled “N/A,” providing engaging storytelling for drama enthusiasts.
Dance schools and film clubs are also participating in the cultural week, with special dance recitals and film screenings that include LGBTQ+ focused narratives. Events like QFEST, an LGBTQ+ film series, aim to educate and inspire through visual storytelling.
Families will find plenty to enjoy, with events like the Albany Comic Con and the Belmont Family Fun Festival offering entertainment for children and adults alike. These events help to round out the week with a variety of fun, interactive experiences.
