Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Concludes Its Theatrical Run with Impressive Box Office Numbers

Tim Burton’s highly anticipated sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, has officially wrapped its theatrical release, following its debut at the Venice Film Festival in late August and subsequent global launch on September 6. The film features a notable cast, including Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, and Catherine O’Hara. After transitioning to digital streaming on premium video on demand on October 8, the final box office report reflects a substantial financial performance.

Final Box Office Figures

As per The Numbers, the film concluded its North American theatrical run on November 26, earning $3,118 on its last day across 68 venues. This brought the domestic gross to an impressive total of $294,097,060.

Internationally, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice generated $155,989,501, culminating in a worldwide gross of $450,086,561. The film was produced with a budget of roughly $100 million, excluding promotional costs.

Comparative Financial Performance in Tim Burton’s Filmography

In terms of overall box office success, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice ranks as the third highest-grossing film in Tim Burton’s director portfolio, not accounting for inflation. Notably:

  • Alice in Wonderland (2009): $1.025 billion
  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005): $475.8 million
  • Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: $450.1 million
  • Batman (1989): $411.3 million
  • Planet of the Apes (2001): $362.2 million

By comparison, the original Beetlejuice (1988) garnered just $75.1 million globally.

Future Prospects: Will a Beetlejuice 3 Materialize?

The success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice begs the question of a potential sequel, Beetlejuice 3. However, director Tim Burton has precluded this possibility, citing the long gap between the original and the sequel as a significant deterrent. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Burton remarked, “Well, if [the same] time frame goes on, I’ll be about 100. So maybe. I doubt it.”

For those who missed out on its theatrical engagement, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is currently available for rent on premium video on demand services and has also been released in 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD formats. It will debut on the Max streaming service on December 6.

With its PG rating, the film features contributions from Burton’s regular collaborators, including writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and composer Danny Elfman, promising a blend of nostalgia and contemporary flair.
